------------------ Gordon. [This message has been edited by wurdsmiff (edited 10-22-2000).]Beth On a recent trip to British Columbia we visited Craigdarroch castle in the city of Victoria. We heard a story about one of the doors off the parlour in the castle. It is said that it is the door where they took coffins out of the castle. Superstition has it that you must never exit the castle in death through the same door you came in through. This door has no steps on the outside of the castle....and supposedly the coffin would be lowered to a waiting hearse through this door after lying in the parlour for the funeral. It makes for a great story but we have been unable to verify it through research. Has anyone heard of such a thing? This coal baron - Robert Dunsmuir - was the owner of the castle and was of Scottish heritage. He died before completion of the castle and never lived in it although his wife and some of his children did.
